Parent/Teacher Relationship
I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, weekly newsletters, report cards, and parent/teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.
Throughout the school year there will be classroom and school activities for you to volunteer your time as well as opportunities to send in supplies. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and sends the message that you value school.
School Supplies
Thank you for purchasing supplies for your student. You child will also need either a smock or oversized shirt for art class. Please expect this shirt to get dirty with paint.
Extra Clothes
Please send in a change of clothes (shirt, pants, socks, and underwear) in the ziplock bag provided. These extra clothes will be used in case of a spill, wet pants from a puddle, or a bathroom accident. We will keep these clothes in the classroom.
School Attendance
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. I can’t emphasize this point enough!!! Most kindergarten learning activities are group orientated and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is difficult to make up work at home. Please view school as a priority, and see to it that your child attends everyday except in cases of illness or emergency. If your child is not able to attend, we ask that you contact the main office by 8:30 am.
Dismissal
If your child will be going home any other way than the normal routine, please let the office know as soon as possible. You must send in a note in your child’s folder to authorize us to make the requested changes.
Labeling
Please write your child’s name on everything he/she brings to school. This includes jackets, backpacks, art smocks, and lunch boxes. Many children have the same items and it can be difficult to tell them apart. This will also help us find lost items quicker.
Toys in School
Please do not allow your child to bring any toys to school. They get lost or broken and we end up with an upset child. If your child would like to bring in something related to a current theme or topic that s/he wants to share, please let me know!
School Lunch
If your child will be ordering a school lunch please send the money in a bag or envelope with your child’s name and lunch choice in the Cricket Folder. You can find the lunch menu on the school website. Please go over the choices with your child each morning. You can also add money to your child’s lunch account online. Children can purchase milk or water for $0.50.
We also have reduced and free lunch options for families experiencing financial hardships. Applications for free/reduced lunch are available in the office. Families must qualify for this program.
Snack
We will be having an afternoon snack. Each child must bring in his/her own snack to school every day. We are promoting healthy snacks. Some snack ideas: fruit, pretzels, pudding, cheese, rice cakes, crackers, cereal, yogurt, veggies, etc. Please send in the necessary utensils with your child’s snack. Snack time is about 10 minutes; please send in a snack that can be easily eaten in that short time.
If your child is also bringing a lunch from home, we suggest going over what items are for snack. Placing an “S” on the snack item in black marker can be a big help. If your child will be ordering a lunch from school, you may send the snack in a small, labeled lunch bag or lunch box.
We are not able to provide students will any snacks.
While it isn't required, each student is allowed to bring in a bottle of plain water (please no flavored water or juice) labeled with his/her name to be kept in the classroom each day. This will be especially helpful at the start of our year when the room can get rather warm.
Birthdays
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. On the day of your child’s birthday we will celebrate with a special birthday story and your child will wear a birthday crown. Due to a new policy, we are not allowed to have any special snacks. Our celebrations will be nonfood related. If your child’s birthday falls in the summer months, we will have a summer birthday celebration during the last week of school.
We are happy to distribute birthday invitations in our classroom. Please know that our policy states that we will only distribute birthday invitations if the entire class is invited.
Homework
Students will not be required to do homework in kindergarten. We will however send home activities that can be practiced at home at your leisure. These activities will reinforce the skills we are learning in school and will provide you with the opportunity to work with your child and see what they are learning.
